Cimi Kazazi, the landlord of The Italian Greyhound pub in Leicester, has been hailed as a hero for his courageous actions during the devastating floods sweeping the UK.
While surveying the damage to his pub, Kazazi noticed a 63-year-old woman trapped in a car as floodwaters rose around her.
Without hesitation, he waded through the icy water, rescued the woman, and carried her to safety on dry land.
Grateful for Life-Saving Intervention
The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, shared her deep appreciation for Kazazi’s quick thinking.
“Had I been there for more than 10 or 15 minutes, I don’t know what would have happened,” she told Harborough FM.
“I was shivering, and the water was up to my chest, which must have been around three to four feet deep.”
After her rescue, Kazazi took her into the warmth of his pub, providing coffee, food, and comfort.
She expressed how grateful she was for his intervention, calling it a life-saving act.
A Modest Hero’s Reflection
While onlookers hailed him as a hero, Kazazi was humble about his actions.
“I didn’t think twice,” he said, recalling the dramatic rescue.
“This is something I’ll never forget.”
Although the flooding had caused significant damage to his business, he reflected on the positive side, grateful to have been in the right place at the right time to save a life.
Flooding and Disruption Across the UK
The floods have triggered widespread disruptions, with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service responding to over 200 calls and rescuing 17 people from the rising waters.
The Met Office has issued new weather warnings for snow, ice, and freezing temperatures.
Some regions have experienced the coldest weather of the winter so far, including a chilling -13.3°C recorded in the Highlands.
With snow, ice, and floods causing major delays, significant road closures, and train disruptions, many commuters have faced challenging journeys.
Manchester Airport briefly closed its runways due to heavy snow, while several other transport networks, including trains and buses, have been disrupted by flooding and fallen trees.
Ongoing Health and Travel Warnings
The UK Health Security Agency has extended its cold weather alert for all of England, with severe temperatures expected to continue.
Snow and ice are forecast for several areas, contributing to dangerous conditions on roads and railways.
The RAC has warned that today will be the busiest day for vehicle breakdowns this winter, with up to 20 distress calls expected every minute.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of homes in Yorkshire and the North East have been left without power.
Northern Powergrid teams have been working around the clock to restore electricity, but around 100 homes remain without power as of today.
Through the chaos, Kazazi’s quick thinking and heroic actions serve as a reminder of the difference one person can make in a crisis.
