Prince William recently gave royal fans a charming glimpse into the musical side of the young Wales children.
During a visit to a youth organisation in Lambeth, South London, he shared how Princess Charlotte is following in her mother Kate’s footsteps by learning the piano, while Prince George and Prince Louis are exploring other instruments.
The visit coincided with Prince Harry’s own engagements in Nottingham, marking a rare moment where the brothers carried out separate royal duties in the UK simultaneously.
Supporting Young People Through Music
William visited Spiral Skills, a charity recently supported by his Homewards homelessness initiative, which is expanding into a new hub at The Oasis Village in Tulse Hill.
He toured the music studio there and expressed how important it is for his own children to learn instruments.
Prince George, 12, plays guitar; Princess Charlotte, 10, plays piano; and Prince Louis, seven, is learning drums.
William described music as “crucial” and shared how he wishes he had started learning earlier.
Charlotte Follows in Kate’s Footsteps
Princess Charlotte seems to have inherited her mother’s musical talent.
The Princess of Wales has impressed the public with piano performances, including a surprise set at the 2023 Eurovision finals and a duet at Westminster Abbey on Christmas Eve 2021.
William said these skills inspired him to ensure his children are encouraged musically.
During the visit, 16-year-old Django Brooke asked William if he would play the drums, but he declined, joking that he is “definitely not a drummer” and that Louis would take over if he were present.
William Reflects on Learning Music
William also addressed the young musicians, praising their practice and confidence.
He admitted that reading music was always his weak spot, even though he had experimented with piano, trumpet, and drums as a child.
He emphasized that fostering a love of music in his own family is deeply important.
Seth Pinnock, founder of Symphony Studios, noted that William’s children are now learning instruments, hinting they might one day train at Spiral Skills themselves.
Louis Brings a Playful Energy to the Family
Prince Louis, known for his cheeky and energetic personality, seems right at home behind the drums.
William previously joked at the Tusk Conservation Awards that he spends much of his life “with his fingers in my ears” due to Louis’s drumming practice.
Royal fans will not be surprised by Louis’s antics, which have included climbing trees and pulling playful expressions at public events.
Meanwhile, George has steadily progressed on the guitar since Kate mentioned he had “started to learn” in 2020.
Kate’s Musical Journey
Kate’s own musical background is impressive. She learned piano from a young age, played the flute at school, sang in the choir, and even led the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra during a 2017 visit to Germany.
She has shared her talent in public performances, often charming audiences with her skill and charisma.
Friends also say she achieved commendable grades in both flute and singing examinations, reflecting a well-rounded musical education alongside her siblings James and Pippa.
William Engages with Youth Changemakers
During his Lambeth visit, William also interacted with community leaders who had previously been supported by Spiral Skills and are now trained youth workers.
The organisation, founded in 2015, provides guidance, employability skills, and access to services for young people at risk of exclusion or homelessness.
He also attended a workshop with Young Creators UK, a creative agency led by underrepresented youth referred from Spiral Skills, underscoring his commitment to fostering opportunity through creativity and mentorship.
Family Dynamics and Harry’s Separate Visit
While William focused on supporting youth in Lambeth, Prince Harry conducted visits to his patronages in London and Nottingham.
Harry has publicly expressed a desire for reconciliation with his family despite previous tensions, including disputes over security and his memoirs.
His last UK visit included a court hearing over security arrangements, and he has maintained that he does not foresee returning with his wife and children under current circumstances.
The Wales children’s musical pursuits offer a playful, heartwarming window into family life, while William’s visit to Spiral Skills highlights the royals’ ongoing commitment to youth, creativity, and community engagement.
