Prince George, the nine-year-old son of Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has been granted a special role at the upcoming Coronation of King Charles and Camilla.
He will play a senior role, while his younger brother, Prince Louis, and his cousin, Prince Archie, have missed out on the opportunity.
Prince George is second in the line of succession to the throne, behind his father, Prince William. The Coronation, which is scheduled for May 6, will take place at Westminster Abbey.
Prince George’s Role at the Coronation
Prince George has been trusted to play a senior role at the Coronation, despite being just nine years old. He will be one of eight all-male Pages of Honour at Westminster Abbey. His role will be to hold King Charles and Queen Camilla’s robes during the ceremony.
Prince Louis and Prince Archie Miss Out
Prince Louis, who is seen as too young to undertake the role, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s eldest son Archie will miss out on the role for the same reason. Archie will turn four on May 6, the same date as the Coronation.
Meghan and Harry have not yet confirmed whether they will attend the Coronation, although they have been invited by the Duke of Sussex’s father.
Joe Biden Will Not Attend, but Jill Biden Will
On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Joe Biden will not attend the ceremony, but his wife, Jill Biden, will attend in his place. President Biden called the King on Tuesday to inform him of the decision.
The White House released a readout which said: “The President congratulated the King on his upcoming Coronation and informed him that First Lady Jill Biden looks forward to attending on behalf of the United States. The President also conveyed his desire to meet with the King in the United Kingdom at a future date.”
