President Trump Nominates John Eisenberg, Brett Shumate, and Patrick Davis for Key Justice Department Positions in Washington DC

Today, the Department of Justice made an exciting announcement regarding President Trump’s intent to nominate three individuals to important roles within the department.

John Eisenberg is nominated for Assistant Attorney General for National Security, Brett Shumate is nominated to serve as Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division, and Patrick Davis is set to take on the role of Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legislative Affairs.

John Eisenberg: A Proven Leader in National Security

John Eisenberg has an impressive history in government service, particularly in national security.

During President Trump’s first term, Eisenberg served as the Legal Advisor to the National Security Council, Assistant to the President, and Deputy Counsel to the President for National Security Affairs.

His career at the Department of Justice includes holding significant roles such as Associate Deputy Attorney General in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General and Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Counsel.

Before his government service, Eisenberg was a partner at the prestigious law firm Kirkland & Ellis, where he focused on white-collar crime, internal investigations, and data security.

He also has experience clerking for notable figures, including Judge J. Michael Luttig of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and Justice Clarence Thomas of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Eisenberg holds degrees from Yale Law School and Stanford University.

Brett Shumate: Civil Division Leadership

Brett Shumate currently serves as the Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division.

Before his return to the Department of Justice, Shumate was a partner at Jones Day in Washington, D.C. His experience within the Department includes serving as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Federal Programs Branch in the Civil Division.

Shumate also brings significant judicial experience, having clerked for Judge Edith H. Jones of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

He is a graduate of Wake Forest University School of Law and Furman University.

Patrick Davis: Returning to the Office of Legislative Affairs

Patrick Davis is no stranger to the Department of Justice, having served in various roles across multiple administrations.

In President Trump’s first term, he was the Deputy Associate Attorney General at DOJ.

Earlier in his career, Davis worked as a trial attorney in the Federal Programs Branch of the DOJ’s Civil Division.

His work on Capitol Hill includes positions such as Deputy Chief Investigative Counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he led the “Russiagate” investigation and played a crucial role in the confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Before returning to the DOJ, Davis served as Senior Counsel at the American Petroleum Institute.

He holds a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and an undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska.

These nominees bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their respective positions and are expected to have a significant impact on the Justice Department’s work in the coming years.
