President Muhammadu Buhari unveiled the e-Naira on Monday. At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Buhari unveiled the country’s digital currency.

Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, and others attended the ceremony.

The digital money was supposed to be introduced on October 1, but it was postponed due to Independence Day celebrations.

The e-Naira, according to the country’s central bank, is the result of several years of research into pushing the boundaries of the payments system in order to make financial transactions easier.

CBN noted that the launch of the digital currency is a major step forward in the evolution of money.

The bank vowed to ensure that the e-Naira, like the physical Naira, is accessible by everyone.
