Middlesbrough and Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom is set to be available for sale during the upcoming summer transfer window.
However, clubs interested in signing him will need to be prepared to pay approximately £20 million to secure his services.
Several Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace, Everton, Wolves, Leicester City, and Brentford, have expressed their interest in the 27-year-old prospect.
Akpom’s Remarkable Championship Season:
Chuba Akpom, the talented 27-year-old forward for Middlesbrough, had a remarkable season in the Championship.
In 36 appearances, he scored an impressive 28 goals and provided two assists.
His outstanding performance on the field earned him the prestigious EFL Player of the Year award.
Middlesbrough’s Decision to Sell:
Despite his exceptional form, Akpom has just one year remaining on his contract with Middlesbrough, coached by Michael Carrick.
The club is keen to sell him during the summer transfer window to capitalize on his current success. TEAMtalk reported that Akpom is considered the most likely departure due to the limited time left on his contract.
Interest from Premier League Clubs:
Crystal Palace has shown a long-standing interest in Akpom, as previously revealed by TEAMtalk.
Additionally, Everton, Wolves, Leicester, and Brentford have also been keeping tabs on the striker’s performances.
Middlesbrough is reportedly looking for a transfer fee in the region of £20 million for Akpom’s services.
Dual Citizenship and International Career:
Chuba Akpom, born in London to Nigerian parents, holds dual citizenship in both the UK and Nigeria.
He had previously represented England at the youth and under-21 international levels.
However, in 2019, he declared his intention to switch his allegiance to Nigeria for future matches.
Although he is yet to make any appearances for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, it is expected that he will be called up by the national team for the June international break.
