Pope Francis has issued a powerful call for the right to education as part of his prayer intention for January.
Speaking in a video released on January 2, the Pope expressed deep concern about what he described as an ongoing “educational catastrophe.”
The Crisis of Education in Today’s World
In his message, the Pope highlighted the stark reality that wars, migration, and poverty have left around 250 million children and young people without access to education.
He emphasized that this is not an exaggeration, but a very real crisis affecting millions around the world.
“All children and youth have the right to go to school, regardless of their immigration status,” the Pope stressed, calling for a global effort to ensure that education is accessible to every child, regardless of their circumstances.
Education as a Path to Hope and Integration
Pope Francis continued to speak passionately about the transformative power of education.
He referred to it as “a hope for everyone,” noting how it can provide vital opportunities for those at risk of exploitation.
In particular, he underscored the role education plays in protecting migrants and refugees from discrimination, criminal networks, and other forms of exploitation.
“Education can help them integrate into the communities that welcome them,” the Pope said, adding that it opens doors to a better future.
Through education, children and young adults can break free from cycles of poverty and marginalization, ultimately building a brighter and more inclusive world for all.
