It’s been a tough week off the pitch for Chelsea’s Moisés Caicedo.

The Ecuadorian midfielder reportedly had his £160,000 Audi RSQ8 seized by police after being pulled over near the club’s Cobham training ground in Surrey.

But it wasn’t speeding or reckless driving that raised eyebrows — it turns out Caicedo was allegedly behind the wheel without a valid driving licence.

Pulled Over Near Cobham and Facing a Court Summons

According to The Sun, the 23-year-old was stopped by officers last Friday, April 4, on Fairmile Lane — just a short drive from Chelsea’s training facilities.

Surrey Police confirmed that a man in his 20s from the Cobham area was found to be driving without a licence and that his vehicle was taken away. They also said that enquiries are still ongoing.

Officials are reportedly checking whether Caicedo had valid car insurance at the time.

Regardless, the incident has already landed him in some legal hot water, with a court summons reportedly heading his way.

Club and Agent Keep Quiet as Investigation Continues

When approached for comment, Caicedo’s agent, Manuel Sierra Camacho, simply told The Sun, “There is no comment from us about this matter.

I’m sorry.” Chelsea, on their part, referred to the issue as a “personal matter,” indicating they won’t be making any official statements either — at least for now.

Why Driving Without a UK Licence Can Be a Problem

It’s worth noting that international drivers are allowed to use their foreign driving licences in the UK for up to 12 months.

After that period, they’re expected to apply for a provisional UK licence and pass the country’s standard driving test to continue driving legally.

Driving without a valid licence in the UK isn’t something taken lightly.

Potential penalties can include a hefty fine, penalty points on a future licence, or even a temporary driving ban.

From Brighton to Chelsea: Caicedo’s Rise in English Football

Caicedo first arrived in England in 2021 when he signed with Brighton & Hove Albion.

His impressive performances caught the attention of top clubs, leading to his record-breaking £115 million move to Chelsea in August 2023 — the highest transfer fee ever paid by a British club at the time.

Since joining the Blues, the 53-cap Ecuador international has made a whopping 84 appearances across all competitions, quickly becoming a regular presence in the squad.

All Eyes on Poland as Chelsea Prepare for Conference League Clash

Despite the legal drama, it’s business as usual on the football front.

Caicedo has travelled with his Chelsea teammates to Poland ahead of their Conference League showdown against Legia Warsaw on Thursday.

Whether or not the off-field distractions affect his performance remains to be seen, but the timing certainly isn’t ideal.
