A police officer appears in court to deny sexually assaulting a woman by slapping her on the bottom while on duty

A police officer appeared in court today to deny slapping a woman on the bottom while doing his duties.

After completing a training exercise in the country, 40-year-old Liam Porter is accused of approaching the woman from behind and hitting her behind in front of two witnesses.

The assault happened around 1am on a January day in an east Hampshire village, according to Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

When he appeared in court in Hampshire today, the officer from the Hampshire Constabulary spoke simply to confirm his name, date of birth, and residence and to enter a not guilty plea.

PC Porter, of Lymington, Hampshire, is currently suspended from duty.

He was granted bail on the condition that he not contact the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

The trial is due to be heard at Isleworth Crown Court next month.
