A large-scale search operation is underway to locate a 74-year-old woman who went missing while walking along a remote stretch of coastline in Scotland.

Shona Campbell was last seen on Monday near Moss-Side Caravan Park, located in Cummertrees, Annan, where it’s believed she encountered difficulty after becoming stuck in the mud along the shore of the Solway Estuary.

Challenging Conditions in the Solway Estuary

The area where Ms. Campbell went missing is known for its dangerous conditions, including mudflats surrounding the River Nith and River Annan estuaries.

These areas are prone to quicksand-like situations, and the Solway estuary is regarded as one of the UK’s most treacherous coastal stretches due to its fast tidal movements.

Coordinated Search Efforts

Authorities have mobilized several emergency services to assist in the search, including the Coastguard, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Local police are working alongside specialists, conducting extensive searches to track down Ms. Campbell.

Inspector Amy Ritchie emphasized that every possible effort is being made to find her and that her family is receiving support during this challenging time.

Plea for Information from the Public

Ms. Campbell was reportedly staying at West Moss-Side Caravan Park when she went out for a walk and failed to return.

She is described as wearing jeans, a brown wax jacket, and wellington boots.

Police are urging anyone who may have seen her or has any information to come forward.

Inspector Ritchie made a direct appeal for the public to think back to Monday and report any sightings, no matter how small, that could aid in the search.
