Police examine Manchester City bus vandalism

Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League prompted a report of alleged criminal damage to Manchester City’s bus, according to the police.

A photograph depicted damage to the bus’s windshield, which City claimed was caused by an object hurled from the street.

Wednesday, Merseyside Police requested additional information regarding the incident.

“We have received a report of alleged criminal damage to the Manchester City team bus following Sunday, October 16’s match between Liverpool and Manchester City,” the statement read.

The incidence of alleged windshield damage was reported to us on Tuesday, October 18; further investigations are ongoing.

It is not the first time that there have been crowd disturbances at Anfield games between Liverpool and City, whose rivalry has intensified in recent years as they have vied for supremacy.

In 2018, Liverpool was punished for supporters attacking a City bus as it arrived at Anfield for a Champions League match.

Coins were thrown towards City manager Pep Guardiola from the stands during Sunday’s intense match, but he was not struck. Liverpool promised permanent bans for those convicted.

Sunday’s chants and graffiti by City supporters referenced the Heysel and Hillsborough stadium disasters of the 1980s, to the dismay of Liverpool.

Tuesday, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was charged with improper conduct in relation to his expulsion by referee Anthony Taylor near the end of the match for going too far in his protests against match officials.

If proven guilty, he may face a touchline ban.
