What began as a missing persons case has taken a dark turn in rural France.
A week after 31-year-old Floriane Roux was reported missing, her body was discovered hidden in dense undergrowth near the Dordogne River—shockingly close to the spot where a British woman was brutally murdered earlier this year.
Body Found Near Site of Previous Knife Attack
Floriane’s remains were found just five miles from where 65-year-old Karen Carter, a mother of four, was stabbed to death outside her home in Trémolat back in April.
Floriane had been due to meet a friend on July 23 but never made it.
Her body was eventually located by a police dog in Paunat, not far from her Vauxhall Corsa.
Police Say All Possibilities Are Still on the Table
Local investigators are still trying to piece together what happened to Floriane.
So far, they haven’t ruled out anything—from foul play to suicide.
A doctor confirmed her death at the scene, and a full investigation is underway.
Her boyfriend, who she lived with in Montanceix, is among those questioned.
Karen Carter’s Case Remains Deeply Troubling
Back in April, Karen Carter had spent the evening at a wine tasting party before she was found fatally stabbed outside her property.
Her long-time friend and romantic partner, 75-year-old Jean-François Guerrier, discovered her body after she failed to check in that night.
Investigators Suspect Premeditation in Carter’s Death
The level of violence Karen suffered was extreme—stab wounds to multiple parts of her body, including the chest and leg.
Authorities believe the killer knew her personally, may have been hiding nearby, and took steps to avoid leaving any trace behind.
They’ve even floated the idea that it could have been a hired attacker.
Ties Between the Two Cases Still Unclear
Although the two deaths happened close together in time and geography, police have not officially linked the cases.
Still, the chilling similarities—two women, both known to be heading out with friends, both found near their vehicles—are raising serious concerns among locals and investigators.
Emotional Fallout for Families and Loved Ones
Karen Carter’s husband, who lives in South Africa, flew to France after her death and later held a funeral for her in Bergerac.
Meanwhile, Guerrier has declined to speak publicly about the case, saying only that Karen was a lovely woman.
Ongoing Investigation Promises More Questions
As both cases remain open, investigators are combing through clues, interviewing those close to the victims, and considering every possible scenario.
Locals in this quiet corner of France are still reeling from the back-to-back tragedies.
