A routine flight back to the UK ended in handcuffs for Tommy Robinson, the controversial figure and former founder of the English Defence League.
The 42-year-old was arrested at Luton Airport on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH), following an alleged assault that took place days earlier in London.
Arrest Linked to Violent Incident at St Pancras Station
British Transport Police confirmed that Robinson’s arrest is connected to an incident at St Pancras station on July 28, where a man was seriously injured.
Emergency services were called to the busy central London rail hub at around 8:40pm, and the alleged victim was rushed to a major trauma centre with what were described as serious injuries.
A video later emerged showing Robinson — whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon — walking away from the scene shortly after the incident.
Authorities say they had been looking to question him ever since.
He Left for Tenerife the Next Day
Just hours after the incident, Robinson reportedly boarded a flight to Tenerife in the early hours of July 29, raising questions about whether he was trying to avoid police attention.
The investigation gained traction last week after footage circulated online, showing Robinson casually walking away at St Pancras station shortly after the alleged assault took place.
Arrested as He Returned to the UK from Portugal
British Transport Police say they received word that Robinson was on a flight arriving at Luton Airport from Faro, Portugal, and were ready and waiting for him.
“Officers from BTP have tonight (4 August) arrested a 42-year-old man from Bedfordshire in connection to an assault at St Pancras station on 28 July,” a spokesperson said.
The arrest happened just after 6:30pm at the airport, and Robinson was taken directly into custody where he is now being questioned by investigators.
What Happens Next?
At this point, details about the alleged assault — including what led up to it and the condition of the victim — remain limited.
Police have confirmed that Robinson is being held on suspicion of GBH, which typically involves serious physical injury and can carry a heavy prison sentence if proven in court.
This is a developing story, and more updates are expected as the investigation continues.
