Petro de Luanda was founded in 1980, and they are the most successful team in Angola – they won their first league title in 1982.
They are also known as Os Tricolores or Os Petrolíferos by Angolan football fans. Petro de Luanda play their home matches at Estadio 11 de Novembro which takes 48 500 spectators.
Petro de Luanda are the 15-time Angolan Premier League winners but their last championship came in 2009.
They qualified for this season’s CAF Champions League by virtue of finishing second on the log last season.
The Luanda-based outfit also have 12 Angolan Cup titles – their first title was won in 1987 while their last one came in 2021.
Petro de Luanda have also won six African Super Cup, but they last tasted success in the competition in 2002.

Petro de Luanda have appeared seven times in the CAF Champions League, and the furthest they have gone in the competition was the semi-finals in 2001.
Last season, Petro de Luanda failed to get past the group stages but they have done better this term by reaching the quarter-finals.
Petro de Luanda also appeared seven times in the CAF Confederation Cup but they have never done well since reaching the group stages in 2004 and 2006.
