Perrie Edwards has shared a deeply personal chapter of her life, opening up about the devastating loss of her baby at 22 weeks.
The Little Mix star, 32, who is now expecting her second child, revealed the emotional toll the tragedy took on both her and her fiancé, footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The heartbreak followed the birth of their first son, Axel, in 2021.
Perrie admitted that while the loss was overwhelming for her, Alex also struggled, feeling a profound “lack of control” as he tried to support her through the ordeal.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Struggle Behind the Scenes
Speaking candidly, Perrie highlighted Alex’s quiet strength during the tragedy. “We are very lucky to have each other.
He was just so worried about me, and I think he felt the lack of control, like there was nothing he could really do,” she told Glamour.
She added that while Alex tends to internalize emotions, she could see the impact the loss had on him.
“But him just being there, and being by my side through the whole thing, just made it so much better.
I kept asking him, ‘Are you okay?’ and he’s like, ‘It’s not about me,’ and I’m like, ‘Yes it is though.’ We both lost a baby.
We both went through it. He just wanted to try and be strong for me.”
The Physical and Emotional Shock
Perrie described the moment she discovered she was still producing milk after losing her baby, adding another layer to her grief.
“A few days later, I remember being in the shower and my milk came in.
I remember just going out the room like, ‘Mam!’ and she was like, ‘What, what, what?’ and I was like, ‘I’ve got milk!’ I just wasn’t expecting it.
I was devastated. My body was prepared for the baby, but the baby was gone.”
The experience, she admits, was traumatising, but Perrie emphasized how crucial Alex’s presence was during those dark days.
Looking Forward to New Beginnings
Now, Perrie is embracing a new chapter in her life, preparing for the arrival of her second child while also launching her long-awaited solo debut album, Perrie, set to release on September 26.
Despite embarking on a solo career after her Little Mix bandmates—Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall, and former member Jesy Nelson—Perrie reassures fans that the bond with her former bandmates remains strong.
“It’s wild. But we just love each other so much, we just want to see each other do well and see each other win.
We’ll always message each other, because we know we can depend on each other for advice,” she said.
Music as a Personal Outlet
Perrie revealed that some of the album’s songs were particularly emotional to write.
“Probably Same Place, Different View because it was so personal and it’s about somebody else. I was very cautious of how I was saying things.
It’s about a friendship that I once had that I no longer have anymore… It was like losing a limb. I was with her every day.
We lived in each other’s pockets. We were the best of friends, we did everything together. To then not have her in my life anymore was a big thing for me. I found it really hard to adapt.”
Her album promises to be an honest reflection of her experiences, both joyful and painful, as she continues her journey as an artist and mother.
