Football managers don’t often get much downtime, but Pep Guardiola decided to make the most of the international break by taking a trip to New York.
The Manchester City boss was spotted at the US Open final, showing his support for fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz as he faced Jannik Sinner.
A Break After a Tough Defeat
Guardiola’s visit to the States came just after City’s 2-1 loss away to Brighton before the break.
It was a chance for him to clear his head, recharge, and enjoy another sport he’s known to admire deeply—tennis.
Not His First Tennis Outing
This isn’t the first time Guardiola has been spotted at a major tennis event.
Back in July 2024, he attended Wimbledon with his wife, Cristina Serra. The couple sat in the Royal Box to watch Cameron Norrie take on Alexander Zverev.
On that occasion, Guardiola received some playful boos from the crowd as he took his seat, though it all seemed to be in good humor.
Famous Faces at the US Open
The US Open final drew plenty of star power.
Alongside Guardiola, spectators included US President Donald Trump and NBA star Steph Curry.
As always, the stands were as much of a spectacle as the action on the court.
Pep’s Admiration for Tennis Stars
Guardiola has previously spoken about his respect for tennis players, often pointing to their relentless work ethic.
In his words, people assume champions rely mainly on talent, but what truly separates the best is how hard they work, how well they prepare, and how they handle both victory and defeat.
He particularly admires how players bounce back after tough moments, staying focused and never settling.
Back to Business at Manchester City
Once the break ends, it’s straight back to football for Guardiola.
Manchester City return to action on September 14, when they face fierce rivals Manchester United at the Etihad.
Against Brighton, City had taken the lead through Erling Haaland, but James Milner’s penalty and Brajan Gruda’s late strike handed them a disappointing defeat—something Guardiola will want to quickly put behind him.
