Pensioner Dies After Being Hit by Bus Outside Scottish Parliament as Police Launch Urgent Investigation in Edinburgh

Just when it seemed the mystery around Jay Slater’s tragic death couldn’t get any more tangled, a new twist has emerged—one that’s raising eyebrows about the police investigation.

A key witness who authorities claimed they couldn’t locate is apparently relaxing on holiday… right there in Tenerife, the same island where Jay vanished and was later found dead.

Family of Witness Stunned by Court Claims

Lucy Law, 20, was among the last people to see 19-year-old Jay alive after a night out in Tenerife last summer.

But during the recent inquest into his death, a startling claim was made: police said they couldn’t find her or get in touch.

The court, which included Jay’s grieving family, was told by coroner Dr. James Adeley that several key witnesses, including Lucy, had stopped answering calls.

But Lucy’s family has pushed back hard. Speaking from their home in Burnley, her stepfather Andy Davis said they were completely unaware of the inquest or any need for Lucy to appear.

In fact, Lucy was on holiday on the same island where Jay died—and had no idea she was wanted by the court.

“The first we knew of it was when police knocked on our door,” he said.

“They told us she was supposed to be in court. We didn’t receive anything until today.”

Slater Family Frustrated: “Why Can We Find Them, but Not the Police?”

Jay’s family, understandably frustrated, questioned how the authorities couldn’t locate witnesses when they themselves were able to track them down with little effort.

“Lucy is in Tenerife. Another person the police said they couldn’t find is on holiday in Greece,” a family source shared.

“If we can figure that out quickly, why can’t they?”

Reluctance to Speak? Drug Use Possibly a Factor

Dr. Adeley suggested that some witnesses may be avoiding court due to fears about drug-related details coming to light.

It was confirmed during the hearing that Jay’s body contained traces of ecstasy, cocaine, and ketamine—substances that could explain why some people are hesitant to speak publicly.

“There’s always a reluctance when drugs are involved,” said Dr. Adeley.

Lucy Law had previously shared that Jay called her the morning he disappeared, saying he was lost, dehydrated, and running low on phone battery.

The Last Night: A Festival, A Strange Detour, and Disappearance

Jay Slater had flown to Tenerife with friends to attend the NRG Festival on June 16.

After the all-night rave at Papagayo in Playa de las Americas, he became separated from his group and ended up at a remote Airbnb in Masca with two British men—one of whom was a convicted drug dealer named Ayub Qassim.

Jay was last seen alive leaving that Airbnb early the next morning, apparently attempting a 10-hour walk back to his apartment after missing the bus.

Clues on Snapchat and Desperate Messages

A chilling Snapchat post showed Jay having a cigarette at the Airbnb’s doorway at around 7:30 a.m. UK time.

Shortly after, Lucy Law received a call from him saying he was lost, had only 1% battery, and needed water.

Another friend, Brad Hargreaves, got a video call in which Jay appeared to be walking through harsh terrain, trying to make it back.

Despite tireless efforts by friends and family, including searches across the island, Jay’s body wasn’t found until a month later in a steep ravine.

Theories and Conspiracies Added to the Pain

As the search continued, online conspiracies exploded—ranging from kidnapping theories to claims that Jay had stolen a luxury watch from gang members.

His family strongly denied all such speculation, calling it vile and deeply hurtful.

What the Forensic Evidence Revealed

When Jay’s body was finally recovered, a post-mortem found he had died instantly from traumatic injuries caused by a fall.

Severe fractures to his skull and pelvis were consistent with falling from a significant height.

Dr. Richard Shepherd, a forensic pathologist, testified that there were no injuries suggesting Jay had been assaulted.

However, he also acknowledged that the state of decomposition made it impossible to completely rule out a push, though there was no direct evidence of foul play.

Drug Timeline Remains Unclear

Toxicologist Dr. Stephanie Martin explained that due to the delay in recovering Jay’s body, standard blood and urine tests weren’t possible.

However, liver and hair analysis indicated recent use of MDMA (ecstasy), ketamine, and cocaine.

While it’s likely Jay took ketamine within 12 hours of his death, Dr. Martin couldn’t confirm if he was under the influence at the moment he fell.

A Cryptic Snapchat and Talk of Selling a Watch

One of Jay’s friends, Joshua Forshaw, gave evidence via video link and recalled that Jay had sent him a Snapchat message on the night of June 16.

The message claimed he had been kicked out of the event and was with two “Maili kids” trying to sell an AP watch for “ten quid”—slang he said meant £10,000.

Forshaw said he never saw the watch and wasn’t involved in any sale.

He also testified that Jay had sent a second Snapchat image early the next morning showing himself with two knives tucked into his waistband.

In the caption, Jay wrote that he was carrying them “in case it kicks off.”

Forshaw admitted he didn’t report the image to Spanish police but told UK police about it after returning home.

Was Jay in Danger? Or Just Disoriented?

Forshaw described Jay as “excitable and happy” during the festival but possibly on drugs.

He recalled a FaceTime call where Jay didn’t sound like he was in danger, just slurring his words and saying he had no money for a taxi.

His friend Hargreaves even offered to pay for a ride or told him to get in and run when he arrived.

The coroner pressed Forshaw on the Snapchat messages and warned there could be “serious consequences” if he didn’t back up his claim that “ten quid” referred to £10,000.

Other Witnesses Still Missing as Summonses Go Ignored

Despite multiple summonses issued by police to key witnesses—including Ayub Qassim, Steven Roccas (aka “Rocky”), and Jay’s other friends—many have yet to come forward.

Attempts to contact them through numbers and emails provided to Spanish authorities have failed.

While Forshaw testified, others like Hargreaves reportedly informed the court ahead of time that they would be abroad.

Lucy Law, as it turns out, is just a short distance from the courtroom—completely unaware she was meant to be there.
