Tottenham’s Pedro Porro has opened up about the fallout from the 2-1 defeat to Fulham on Saturday, putting some of the blame on the fans.
The full-back explained that the jeers aimed at goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who misplayed for Fulham’s second goal, triggered his visible frustration and led to a heated moment with teammate Lucas Bergvall after the match.
Emotions Overflow at Full-Time
Porro’s actions sparked headlines after he appeared to confront 19-year-old Bergvall, who had been clapping the crowd in appreciation.
The Spaniard, in contrast, stormed down the tunnel without acknowledging the stands, a gesture that didn’t sit well with supporters.
On Instagram, Porro gave his side of the story, writing: “Football is emotions.
In football, as in life, there can always be mistakes.
What I will not tolerate is hearing disrespect from the fans to my team-mates, hence my frustration at the end of the game.”
He added a message of optimism and support: “And we will get up.
We remind you, six months ago, everything was so bad.
In the end, it is not how it begins but how it ends. To the true Spurs fans, I love you.”
Vicario Bears the Brunt of Booing
Much of the tension stemmed from Vicario, who faced persistent boos after gifting the ball to Harry Wilson for Fulham’s second goal.
Fulham’s manager, Thomas Frank, didn’t hold back in his post-match comments, labelling the crowd’s reaction “completely unacceptable” and questioning whether such behavior could come from true Tottenham supporters.
The home side had already fallen behind dramatically, conceding two goals in the opening six minutes to Kenny Tete and Wilson, before Mohammed Kudus pulled one back.
Despite Kudus’ effort, Spurs were unable to recover, marking their fourth home defeat of the Premier League season — a record bettered only by Wolves.
Fan Backlash Over Porro’s Behavior
Porro’s visible outburst towards Bergvall didn’t sit well with supporters, with many taking to social media to voice their frustration.
One fan wrote: “You people do not know how absolutely tired I am of Pedro Porro.
And his antics at full time, not clapping the fans, ignoring the manager, but coming out to shout at Bergvall? Disgusting.”
Others defended the young Bergvall, highlighting his effort and sportsmanship.
“Bergvall [is] a young kid who puts in more effort than experienced pros and has the decency to thank the fans and he’s got Porro digging him out.
Coward,” one wrote. Another added: “Porro shouting at Bergvall, who have everything and is applauding the fans… Wow. Bin.”
The consensus online suggested a disconnect between some Spurs players and their supporters, with one fan commenting: “It looks like there’s a massive disconnect between the players and the fans.
Very strange behavior from Porro to call Bergvall to come down the tunnel, who was clapping the fans.”
What’s Next for Tottenham
As the team looks to regroup, the questions remain about how Spurs will handle the tensions between players and fans, while trying to turn around their troubling home form.
Porro’s outburst might be a symptom of bigger frustrations, but it has sparked a debate on professionalism, loyalty, and the role of emotions in modern football.
