Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United has been uncertain for a while now, but recent news about his season-long loan to Barcelona has sparked plenty of reactions.
One of the most interesting comes from former United star Paul Pogba, who knows a thing or two about leaving Old Trafford.
Rashford’s Loan Deal to Barcelona is Almost Official
The deal is reportedly close to being finalized, with Barcelona set to bring Rashford in on loan for the upcoming season.
There’s even an option for the Spanish giants to make the transfer permanent next summer, depending on how things go.
For Rashford, this move means a fresh start away from Manchester United, where he has struggled to find his place under recent management.
Rashford’s Difficult Time Under New Management
Rashford’s troubles began when Erik ten Hag started to sideline him, but things took a turn for the worse after Ruben Amorim took charge.
The Portuguese manager made it clear Rashford wasn’t part of his plans, leading to Rashford’s loan spell at Aston Villa during the latter half of last season.
While at Villa, Rashford put in solid performances—playing 17 games, scoring four goals, and assisting six times—which showed he still has plenty to offer on the pitch.
Pogba Reacts With Support and Understanding
In a casual chat with YouTube star IShowSpeed, filmed on a boat for beIN Sports, Pogba shared his honest take on Rashford’s situation.
He called the move “crazy” but expressed happiness for Rashford.
“I’m happy for him because they took his number at United. They’re losing a great player,” Pogba said.
“Barcelona are getting a great player, honestly.
I’m not even focused on United because the club bought some new players and the manager wants to do his thing.”
Pogba acknowledged the pressure managers face to win and how that can affect player choices: “If the coach doesn’t believe in someone, he can’t play them.
He needs to win or he risks losing his job.”
Rashford’s Long-Term Contract and Future Prospects
Despite his troubles, Rashford’s contract at Manchester United still runs until 2028, giving the club some security.
But with the new loan, Barcelona will cover his hefty £315,000-a-week wages while he’s away.
At pre-season training, Rashford has been training separately from the main squad at Carrington, along with teammates like Jadon Sancho and Antony, signaling that the club is preparing for his departure.
A New Number 10 and Rashford’s Legacy at United
Another strong hint that Rashford is leaving came when his iconic No. 10 shirt was handed over to Matheus Cunha, the club’s recent signing.
Rashford leaves Manchester United with an impressive record: 426 appearances, 138 goals, and 77 assists.
Along the way, he helped the club win the FA Cup, the EFL Cup twice, and the Europa League.
