A quiet afternoon at London City Airport turned into chaos as an unattended bag caused a temporary evacuation.

Passengers were asked to leave the terminal as a precaution, leading to confusion and uncertainty.

Passengers Wait in the Parking Lot

Social media users quickly shared their experiences.

One passenger posted on X at around 5:30 pm, describing the scene: “London City Airport seemingly evacuated?

In queue with several hundred people now in the parking lot.”

Around 6:00 pm, the same user updated that passengers were slowly being allowed back inside.

Another person noted a police helicopter hovering over the runway and incoming flights being held in a holding pattern.

Airport Statement and Resolution

The airport responded with a statement, clarifying that the landside area was evacuated briefly due to the unattended bag.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the spokesperson added, emphasizing that passenger safety is always the priority.

By the time the statement was issued, the situation had been resolved, and passengers were allowed back into the terminal.

Police Confirm Details

The Metropolitan Police also provided details, confirming that they were called at 4:39 pm regarding concerns over the abandoned bag.

A cordon was put in place, but it was lifted once it was determined that the bag posed no threat.

The situation was resolved without further incident.
