The drama at Infowars took a dramatic turn this week as longtime host Owen Shroyer announced he’s leaving the controversial media company.
The departure stems from ongoing clashes with founder Alex Jones over coverage of former President Donald Trump.
Creative Clash Behind the Scenes
Shroyer, best known for hosting The War Room, shared the news in a livestream on Monday.
He explained that conflicts with Jones had been brewing for some time.
According to Shroyer, Jones repeatedly criticized him for being “too anti-Trump” and “negative” during broadcasts.
“You work for Alex, you’re going to get hit with it a lot. Alex is not easy to work for,” Shroyer said.
“He says I’m too negative, he says I’m a pessimist, whatever… so I just said, alright, I’ll take some time off.”
Despite attempts to keep the peace, Shroyer said the same issues resurfaced as soon as he returned.
He described the atmosphere as constantly being under scrutiny, making it impossible to execute his vision for the show.
Walking Off Mid-Show
The tension finally reached a breaking point last Thursday when Shroyer “walked off the show mid-broadcast” after Jones allegedly disrupted the episode.
After a meeting with Jones this week, the Infowars founder reportedly told him, “He didn’t need me and good luck,” effectively ending Shroyer’s tenure.
Shroyer added, “That’s it as far as I’m concerned. I’m not going back. I’m not hosting the War Room anymore.”
Financial and Political Pressures
The decision was also influenced by financial strain, as Shroyer admitted he had been “basically just living paycheck-to-paycheck” without a raise since 2018.
His exit coincides with heightened tensions within the Republican Party, particularly around Trump’s handling of issues like the Epstein investigation and Middle East policies.
Shroyer has been openly critical of Trump on these matters, a stance that clashed with Jones’ continued defense of the former president.
A Controversial Career
Shroyer first joined Infowars in 2016 and became the War Room’s inaugural host in 2017.
Over the years, he became one of the network’s most recognizable faces, sharing conspiracy theories on topics including the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.
He was named in a Texas lawsuit related to those claims.
More recently, Shroyer served two months in prison in 2023 for illegally entering a restricted area near the U.S. Capitol during the January 6 attack.
Authorities said he spread election disinformation and made “thinly veiled calls to violence” to Infowars viewers, contributing to the events of that day.
The End of an Era at Infowars
Shroyer’s departure marks another chapter in Infowars’ turbulent history.
With longtime hosts leaving and internal conflicts surfacing, the network faces a period of uncertainty, even as Alex Jones remains a steadfast defender of Trump and the company’s controversial messaging.
