More than 80 students from a primary school in Mandeni, KwaZulu-North Natal’s Coast, were rushed to local clinics after being exposed to tear gas.
They are thought to have been affected when police deployed tear gas to disperse protesting residents on Wednesday.
“Twenty-six youngsters have been transferred to various facilities by IPSS medical rescue,” says IPSS Medical Rescue spokeswoman Dylan Meyrick.
Twenty-five of them are in good health, while one is in a moderate state.
Approximately 80 children were privately ferried to various clinics in the vicinity by the local taxi association, all in good health.”
