Outraged Manchester United supporters accuse club of exploiting match-going fans with excessive ticket prices

The frustration among Manchester United fans is reaching boiling point, and it’s not just because of performances on the pitch.

Supporters’ group FC58 has raised the alarm over ticket price increases, warning that it could spell the end of traditional fan culture at the club.

Survey Reveals Widespread Discontent

A recent survey conducted by FC58 gathered responses from 25,000 supporters, and the results were overwhelmingly clear—92% of fans are unhappy with the rising costs.

Ticket prices for members have jumped to £66, and there’s growing concern about even steeper hikes for season tickets next season.

Fans believe that instead of focusing on financial burdens caused by the Glazers, new minority owners INEOS, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are unfairly targeting loyal supporters by increasing ticket prices.

Fans Feel Pushed Out in Favor of Tourists

FC58 spokesman Steve Compton didn’t hold back in expressing frustration.

“We received nearly 25,000 responses plus thousands of comments, and the message is loud and clear—we’ve had enough!

The club is pricing out match-going fans and replacing them with tourists and day trippers,” Compton said.

He added that the club views traditional supporters—often referred to as ‘legacy fans’—as less financially beneficial compared to visitors who spend more in the stadium.

Concerns Over Future Pricing Strategies

The introduction of a £66 minimum for member tickets has raised fears that even more aggressive pricing strategies could be on the horizon.

“There’s talk of dynamic pricing being implemented, which means prices could fluctuate based on demand,” Compton explained.

“This is just the beginning. If the club continues on this path, it risks cutting ties with its working-class roots and the generational fans who have been the heart of Manchester United for decades.”

The Real Issue: The Glazers’ Debt

According to FC58, the real financial burden on the club isn’t ticket revenue—it’s the massive debt left by the Glazer family.

“The simplest solution is to remove the Glazers and their debt mountain,” Compton said.

“Once that happens, revenue will naturally increase.

But instead, the new investors seem more interested in squeezing money from loyal fans rather than addressing the true financial issues—debt, mismanagement, and crippling interest payments.”

Growing Frustration Among Fans

The survey also revealed that dissatisfaction isn’t just about ticket prices.

A staggering 92% of respondents expressed disappointment with the stadium atmosphere, and nearly 90% said they would be willing to take part in protest campaigns at Old Trafford or other locations.

“The mood among supporters is worse than ever,” Compton stated.

“Nothing has changed, and in many ways, things have gotten even worse.”

What’s Next?

With fan unrest growing and campaigns brewing, it’s clear that the battle over ticket prices and club ownership is far from over.

Supporters are determined to make their voices heard, and FC58 is leading the charge in demanding change.

Whether the club listens remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—Manchester United fans won’t back down without a fight.
