Outcrop: A Fusion of Gastronomy and Art in the Heart of London
A new and exciting pop-up experience is set to captivate Londoners as Outcrop, a collaborative venture between the renowned Clove Club and Luca founders Johnny Smith and Daniel Willis, along with the creative minds behind Secret Cinema, prepares to launch.
With esteemed chef John Chantarasak at the helm, this unique establishment will serve as both a restaurant and an arts space, aiming to provide an immersive experience that connects guests with nature.
An Ecologically-Conscious Oasis
Opening its doors on June 23 for a three-month run, Outcrop will be located at 180 The Strand.
Described as a “verdant courtyard” and an “inner-city oasis,” it promises to transport visitors to a tranquil and environmentally conscious setting.
The project is being hailed as a “green social club” that prioritizes sustainability and ecological awareness.
With seating available for 30 guests at a time, Outcrop aims to offer an intimate and immersive dining experience.
Gastronomic Delights from the Mind of John Chantarasak
John Chantarasak, the mastermind behind AngloThai, will bring his culinary expertise to Outcrop.
Combining Thai cooking techniques with locally-sourced British ingredients, Chantarasak’s menu will feature tantalizing dishes such as coconut-smoked turbot bone broth, asparagus with sunflower seed satay, skate wing jungle curry, and root vegetable som tam with tamarind and honey.
Guests can expect a culinary journey divided into snacks, small plates, large plates, and delectable desserts.
While pricing details are yet to be revealed, patrons can anticipate a memorable dining experience that seamlessly merges Thai and British flavors.
An Innovative and Sustainable Beverage Selection
The wine list at Outcrop will feature a rotating selection of low-intervention European wines, available on tap and by the glass or carafe.
Notably, the wine will be supplied in recycled and refillable kegs, reducing glass wastage and promoting sustainability.
Beverage enthusiasts can also look forward to an inventive cocktail menu crafted by Robert Simpson, the bar manager of JKS group.
Using British ingredients, Simpson’s cocktails will include the Outcrop Martini (London dry gin, homemade herb garden vermouth) and the British Margarita (barley eau de vie, honey, gooseberry).
The focus on ecological impact will be evident, with Simpson collaborating with British distilleries to create a sustainable and enjoyable drinking experience.
An Immersive Arts and Music Programme
In addition to its culinary offerings, Outcrop will host a captivating arts and music programme.
The venue will feature a sound system comprised of vintage Klipschorn speakers, setting the stage for immersive and inspiring performances.
Esa Williams, a notable South African DJ and producer, will collaborate with singer and artist Chisara Agor on a project that explores the African diaspora, specifically examining the migration of swallows from South Africa to the UK.
The performance will blend movement, visual art, and various genres of music, including classical, folk, electronic, and jazz. Meanwhile, Sam Willis of the band Walls will curate a unique soundtrack that delves into humanity’s relationship with nature.
Stay tuned for an exciting lineup of live music performances, featuring esteemed artists such as John Gomez (NTS), Joel Martin (Quiet Village), and Daniel John Willis and Mr Pedro (NTS).
An Anticipated Future for Outcrop
Following its initial pop-up run, there are high hopes for Outcrop to expand into a permanent venture.
With its innovative blend of gastronomy, art, and an emphasis on sustainability, this unique concept has the potential to become a long-standing fixture in London’s vibrant culinary and cultural scene.
