While fans still have a bit of a wait before the Premier Soccer League (PSL) kicks off again, the excitement is already simmering.
Clubs are reshaping their squads, players are chasing international dreams, and the upcoming season is gearing up to be one to remember.
Orlando Pirates Reload as Transfer Window Heats Up
Last season, Orlando Pirates gave champions Mamelodi Sundowns a serious run for their money before running out of steam in the closing stages.
But they’re clearly not looking to repeat that fade this time around.
The Buccaneers have already signed 10 new players, including top-tier PSL talents Oswin Appollis and Tshepang Moremi.
These fresh signings may ease the sting of a potential departure fans have been bracing for—that of rising star Relebohile Mofokeng.
Mofokeng’s Father Makes His Wishes Known
At just 20 years old, Mofokeng has become a hot prospect, with interest reportedly coming in from clubs like FC Cincinnati in the U.S. and African giants Al Ahly.
And now, his father Sechaba Mofokeng is publicly calling for his son to leave the PSL and chase his dreams abroad.
“My biggest wish is to see Rele playing overseas in the 2025/2026 season,” he said passionately. “I pray every single day.
I don’t want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this year.”
Sechaba didn’t hold back when sharing his faith in Rele’s talent:
“Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — he can play anywhere.
Even Barcelona or PSG—he’s that good.
Just not Saudi Arabia,” he added with a smile.
Ribeiro’s Heart Still Beats for Palmeiras
Over at Mamelodi Sundowns, another name is quietly sparking exit rumours—Lucas Ribeiro Costa, the league’s top goal scorer.
Though he recently had the chance to face Fluminense at the Club World Cup, it’s Palmeiras that still owns his heart.
“You support the team you play for, of course,” Ribeiro said, “but I’ve always been a Palmeiras fan because of my dad.
He made sure I grew up loving the club.”
Although he’s committed to Sundowns now, his comments have some wondering whether he could soon return home—or make a move elsewhere.
The Season May Be Weeks Away, But the Drama Has Already Begun
With stars like Mofokeng possibly heading to Europe and Ribeiro attracting attention, and teams like the Pirates reloading with intent, the PSL offseason is anything but quiet.
The season may not have started, but the storylines are already in full swing.
