The transfer window has been buzzing, but Orlando Pirates have really turned heads this season.
Among all their new signings, the biggest headline grabber has to be Oswin Appollis.
Landing the talented Bafana Bafana star feels like a real coup for the Buccaneers, and it’s got fans talking about just how smart this move was.
The Race to Sign Oswin Appollis
For a while now, rumors have linked Appollis to one of South Africa’s top clubs, and in the end, Orlando Pirates came out on top in the battle to secure his signature.
The winger’s speed and skill on the ball have made him one of the most sought-after players in the country.
How Much Did Pirates Pay for Appollis?
So here’s the big question: what was the price tag? According to Transfermarkt, Appollis’s market value is north of R18 million.
But sources like KickOff reveal that Pirates actually got him for a steal.
While Polokwane City initially wanted around R20 million, and even had offers from North African clubs for R15 million, Pirates managed to bring him in for just about R12 million — roughly 60% of that original asking price.
Chiefs Tried But Missed Out
Interestingly, it wasn’t only Pirates chasing Appollis. Kaizer Chiefs made an offer of R10 million last year, but it was turned down.
That means Pirates swooped in with a better deal — and got their man.
Was It Worth It?
Spending R12 million on a local player might sound like a lot in the South African league context, but when you look at Appollis’s track record and talent, many believe Pirates got themselves a real bargain.
