The rivalry between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs isn’t just alive on the pitch — it’s heating up in the transfer market too.
And once again, the Buccaneers have come out on top.
This time, it’s Polokwane City’s Oswin Appollis who’s made the switch to Pirates.
Chiefs were keen on the talented winger, but it’s the Sea Robbers who got the deal over the line.
Pirates Land Appollis After Two Failed Attempts
Both Soweto giants had previously tried to bring in the 23-year-old — first during the last offseason, then again in the January transfer window.
But Polokwane City rejected both approaches, wanting to hold onto one of their brightest stars.
However, after a dip in Appollis’ form during the second half of the season, Polokwane City finally opened the door — and Pirates wasted no time walking through it.
New Target on the Radar: Sadio Kanoute
While the Appollis deal is now done, Orlando Pirates are already setting their sights on another big name.
Reports suggest the club is now eyeing JS Kabylie midfielder Sadio Kanoute, who previously played for Simba SC in Tanzania.
According to Africafoot, Pirates are considering a €500,000 (around R10 million) offer to bring the Malian talent to Soweto.
It’s clear the club is serious about bolstering its midfield for the upcoming season.
Could Pirates Lose Their Golden Boy Mofokeng?
But while new signings are creating excitement, there’s also growing concern in the Pirates camp — and it involves their rising star, Relebohile Mofokeng.
Fans and insiders fear that Mofokeng could be snapped up by a European club during the current transfer window.
And truthfully, not everyone would be disappointed to see it happen.
One Fan’s Plea: Let Rele Shine in Europe, Not Saudi
One passionate Pirates supporter, Sechaba, opened up about his wish for Mofokeng’s future:
“My biggest hope is to see Rele playing overseas in the 2025/26 season.
I pray for it every day,” he said.
He believes the youngster has what it takes to play in top leagues across Spain, England, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, or Switzerland — and maybe even for the likes of Barcelona or PSG.
But there’s one destination Sechaba doesn’t want for Mofokeng — Saudi Arabia.
“Not yet. He’s too young. He needs to grow by playing in UEFA competitions.
He might make good money there, but happiness matters more.
What’s the point of being rich if you’re not fulfilled?”
What’s Next for the Buccaneers?
As pre-season builds momentum, the big question remains: Where will Orlando Pirates finish next season?
They’ve made bold moves in the transfer market, but with the potential departure of Mofokeng and other targets still in the works, fans are eager to see how it all comes together.
