Orlando Pirates Fans Hope for Monnapule Saleng’s Return to the Field as Salary Dispute Continues to Drag On

Orlando Pirates supporters are eagerly hoping for the return of Monnapule Saleng to the wing after months without the talented player on the pitch.

The 27-year-old winger hasn’t featured for the Buccaneers since December 7, when he last played against Al Ahly in the Champions League.

As the season nears its end, coach Jose Riveiro, aiming for his first PSL and Champions League titles, could certainly benefit from having Saleng back on the field.

Contract Standoff Leads to Saleng’s Absence

Saleng’s absence from the squad followed a contract dispute with the club over his salary.

Reports indicate that Saleng, who currently earns R70,000 per week, is demanding a significant pay raise.

Nearly four months later, there seems to be little progress in resolving the issue, and a potential offseason departure is looking increasingly likely.

Despite this, the club is reportedly keen to avoid losing him, with the possibility of a Saleng-Orlando Pirates reunion still in play.

A source close to the situation shared, “It’s a matter between the club and his management, and it has nothing to do with his performance on the field.

If they can resolve it before the end of the season, there’s a chance he could return to action.”

Changes on the Horizon for Orlando Pirates

As for the rest of the squad, it looks like Orlando Pirates will be making significant changes in the offseason.

Reports suggest that four players, including club captain Innocent Maela, are set to be offloaded.

Alongside Maela, Phillip Ndlondlo, Karim Kimvuidi, and Zakhele Lepasa are expected to leave the club once the season concludes.

A source revealed, “The four players are believed to be on their way out, and the club is working with all parties involved to find the best solution for everyone.”

Should Orlando Pirates Hold On to Saleng?

The big question now is whether Orlando Pirates should work to keep Saleng on their roster.

With the possibility of his departure looming, fans are eager to see if the club can resolve the salary dispute and bring him back into the fold before the season ends.

What do you think? Should the Pirates do everything they can to retain the winger?
