Orlando Pirates supporters are feeling the heat as the team stumbles out of the gate in the Betway Premiership.
After suffering two straight defeats under new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, many fans are already calling on the club’s management to bring back former boss Jose Riveiro.
Tough Losses Leave Pirates at the Bottom of the Table
The Buccaneers kicked off their league campaign with a 1-0 loss to Sekhukhune United, a result that raised eyebrows but still left room for hope.
However, things got worse on Tuesday evening when Pirates hosted Marumo Gallants and were surprisingly beaten 2-1 — despite scoring the first goal.
After just two games, Ouaddou’s side find themselves anchored at the bottom of the standings, much to the frustration of their loyal fanbase.
Fans Long for Jose Riveiro’s Return
Jose Riveiro, who led the Pirates between 2022 and 2025, brought silverware success to the club with five trophies under his belt.
But when his contract expired in June, he chose not to renew and instead accepted a new role with Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
His departure left a gap that many supporters feel Ouaddou has yet to fill.
After the disappointing defeat to Gallants, the cries for Riveiro’s return grew louder on social media.
Supporters lament the sudden drop in performance and question the new coach’s decisions.
One fan, @ka_madesi, expressed frustration by saying, “This guy inherited a well-oiled machine and then benches the key players who carried the team.”
Another, @tdyani, added, “Jose Riveiro’s hard work completely undone in just three matches. Unbelievable.”
The Impact of Riveiro’s Absence is Clear
Many believe the club underestimated how much Riveiro’s leadership held the team together.
“Something isn’t right with Pirates right now,” said @RozmolaThato. “Jose Riveiro needs to come back — this is embarrassing and sad.”
Another fan, @NeoMabuya_, tweeted, “We’ve lost all direction. We’re just a team with players moving without a brain.”
The frustration among the Sea Robbers faithful is palpable as they worry about the season ahead.
