The race for the Betway Premiership title is heating up, and once again, the Soweto Giants, Orlando Pirates, are under pressure to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the top spot.
However, they will have to face the Chilli Boyz without one key player.
Jose Riveiro to Step In for Sipho Chaine
This Wednesday evening, Orlando Pirates are set to face off against the Chilli Boyz at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. However, there’s an issue for the Sea Robbers.
Orlando Pirates’ goalkeeper, Sipho Chaine, will miss the match due to a suspension after picking up his fourth yellow card in their recent game against Marumo Gallants.
This means Chaine will be sidelined for the match against his former club.
Head coach Jose Riveiro is expected to call upon Melusi Buthelezi to fill in between the posts for Pirates.
Monnapule Saleng’s Parents Speak Out
One of the most talked-about players in South Africa right now is Orlando Pirates’ Monnapule Saleng, who has been making headlines for his performances as well as his uncertain future at the club.
In an interview with Sunday World, Saleng’s parents shared their thoughts on his struggles and the challenges he faces.
Mother’s Perspective
Saleng’s mother spoke about how her son had to prove himself despite facing adversity.
“He was fortunate to make it before his team did. He had the chance to play in the MTN 8 final, even though he hadn’t trained for the game.
He delivered, scoring a goal, and that showed his determination,” she said.
“His only wish is for the team to pay him what he truly deserves.”
Father’s Concerns
His father, meanwhile, expressed his concerns about his son’s situation. “It pains me to see him like this.
He’s the one supporting us at home, and seeing him struggle professionally is heartbreaking,” he shared.
“I only wish he could open up to me about what’s bothering him before it becomes too late.”
The father also commented on Saleng’s contract situation, expressing hope that his son would stay with Orlando Pirates, given the club’s stature.
“We want him to stick with Pirates because it’s one of the biggest clubs in the country.”
Currently, Orlando Pirates have not made an official statement regarding Saleng’s future.
As of now, the 26-year-old winger is with the Bafana Bafana squad preparing for the second-leg CHAN qualifier against Egypt in Ismailia this Sunday.
Mama Joy’s New Business Venture

After famously switching her allegiance from Pirates to Royal AM, Mama Joy has partnered with Roots Butchery to launch her own meat brand.
According to MDC News, Mama Joy, a well-known figure in the South African sports scene, is taking on an exciting new challenge.
“This collaboration marks an exciting new chapter in her journey, as she transitions from being a beloved superfan to creating her own legacy in the business world,” the outlet reported.
