The school was immediately placed on lockdown, sending police and helicopters rushing to the area.

Authorities quickly mobilized to track down the suspect.

The good news came when the Omaha Police Department announced that the gunman had been apprehended.

Fortunately, they also confirmed that there was no longer a threat to the community.

Condition of the Victim

The victim, a 15-year-old student, was rushed to the hospital and is currently in critical condition, according to KETV.

Early on, police described the shooter as ‘young,’ but no further details about the suspect were provided until the arrest was made.

Lockdowns Extended to Nearby Schools

In response to the shooting, nearby Marian High School and Roncalli Catholic High School were also put on lockdown.

The lockdowns were maintained until authorities were certain that the situation was under control, which lasted about 30 minutes.

Reunification Efforts

For parents trying to locate their children, a reunification area was set up at the high school’s football stadium to help families reconnect.

This incident follows another tragic event just days earlier at Apalachee High School in Georgia, where a 14-year-old student allegedly opened fire, resulting in the deaths of four people.
