With the new Premier League season just around the corner, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has shared some candid thoughts about his future at the club.
Since stepping in last February to replace Roy Hodgson, Glasner has lifted the Eagles to remarkable heights, including winning the FA Cup last season and guiding them into European competition for the first time.
Yet, just days before the season kicks off, he’s sounding uncertain—and a bit frustrated.
Glasner’s Loyalty Tested Amid Transfer Window Concerns
Glasner has remained loyal to Palace despite growing interest from big clubs like Tottenham and Bayern Munich.
However, he hasn’t been shy about airing his frustrations over the club’s inactivity in the transfer market.
Ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Liverpool at Wembley, he dropped a surprising comment that he shares “the same fate” as Crystal Palace’s captain, Marc Guehi.
Guehi, a vital part of the team, has only one year left on his contract and has been linked with a range of clubs, including Liverpool. Glasner’s comment hinted at the possibility that both he and Guehi’s futures could be unsettled if the club doesn’t move quickly.
When asked if the transfer window’s developments will influence his decision to stay, Glasner simply said, “We will see.”
A Call for Action to Strengthen the Squad
Glasner was reportedly promised the club wouldn’t repeat past mistakes of slow business in the transfer market.
Yet, despite preparing for multiple competitions this season, Palace hasn’t signed any first-team players yet.
Instead, the focus has been on the potential departures of key players like Guehi and Eberechi Eze.
Glasner was clear about what’s needed: “If we want to be better than last year, my advice is to sign at least two players.
That’s what it takes to be competitive in four competitions.”
He continued, “If Crystal Palace wants to maintain European football, climb the Premier League table, and build on last season’s success, this is what we have to do. Everyone at the club knows this.”
He also pointed out the importance of early signings for pre-season preparations.
“It helps when players arrive early to train together. Right now, we’re short on numbers and need quality additions.”
Crystal Palace Awaits Crucial European Competition Verdict
Off the pitch, Palace’s European future is hanging in the balance.
The club is awaiting a ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after a tense hearing in Switzerland over their controversial demotion from the Europa League to the Conference League.
Chairman Steve Parish led the delegation and described the proceedings as “long, detailed, and very civilised.” However, Parish admitted the situation feels surreal and expressed cautious hope for a positive outcome.
“It’s hard to be confident, given where we are,” Parish said.
“Hopefully, good sense will prevail and the right decision will be made.”
The verdict is expected by the end of Monday, leaving Palace staff and fans anxiously waiting over the weekend.
