The State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has been commended for clearing the nine-billion-naira debt hindering the early completion of the multi billion-naira Trans-Warri Ode-Itsekiri Bridges and access road project.
DRTV news correspondent Ogheneruona Oyibo reports that the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse the third who made the commendation while inspecting the project site stated that the road project when completed will be of great economic value to the people.
The twenty six kilometer Trans-Warri Ode-Itsekiri Bridges and Access road project was awarded in August 2006 to Setraco constructing Firm and was earmarked for completion in September 2021.
However, this is October 2021 and the road project is yet to be completed due to paucity of funds. Recently the State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa cleared the outstanding debt of nine billion naira in order to accelerated work on the road project.
Worried by the slow pace of the road project coupled with his determination to ensure that all major projects in Iwere land are completed within specific time frame, the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse the third accompanied by some chiefs visited the project site to ascertain the level of work and to ensure that standard is not compromised.
The Olu of Warri who was conducted round the project by the Special Project Director, Trans-Warri Ode-Itsekiri bridges and access roads, Chief Ohmeyin Adams and Engineer Darlington Wagbatsoma shortly after the inspection stated that he was satisfied with the standard and hailed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his concern in ensuring that the project is put to use through constant funding.
The Olu maintained that he was poised to ensure that all projects that will open up Warri Kingdom for massive development are duely funded and commended the contracting Firm for executing the project according to specification.
In an interview, the Special Project Director, Trans-Warri Ode-Itsekiri Bridges and Access Roads, Chief Otimeyin Adams, said the inspection by the Olu of Warri is significant to the early completion of the project. He also commended Governor Okowa for clearing the nine billion naira debt.
Some residents of the Area who spoke on the economic importance of the road project said they will be glad to access Ode-Itsekiri by road and appealed to the Olu of Warri to help facilitate the completion.
The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse the third had in the course of the Inspection addressed some indigenes of Ugbodede, Ajigba, Inorin and Orugbo communities.
