Obiano Reassures Of Sustaining Partnership With Church Towards Promoting Moral Values

Governor Willie Obiano has reiterated the present administration’s commitment to continue partnering the church for robust moral reign in the society


Governor Obiano stated this during the opening ceremony of the Third Joint Council of Knights Convention going on at Emmaus House Awka.


Governor Obiano who spoke through the State Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh, expressed happiness for the support given to them during the just concluded Anambra elections both in prayers stating that having their son as the Deputy Governor-elect, their plans for Ndi Anambra will be realized.

The Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba represented by Most Reverend David Onuoha of Okigwe Province said that primary duty of the Knights is to contend against the enemies of faith so that the gospel of salvation will continue until the kingdom of this world become the kingdom of God and his son, Jesus Christ, reminding them that the Council of Knights is more of spiritual than physical.


While addressing the delegates from the seventy-seven dioceses across the country, Church of Nigeria, the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim described Knighthood as the highest echelon of laity without which the church cannot progress, asking the delegates to think towards the progress of the church more especially in terms of education and to remain the agents of change and add positively to their Bishops and Archbishop.


The Deputy Governor-Elect, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim who is a member of the Council of Knights called for collective efforts to move the state to a higher pedestal, seeking for ideas and innovations and not criticism.

In an address of welcome, the President General, Joint Council of Knights, Sir Vincent Eta-Orhiunu noted that the convention is to have a robust interaction on contemporary issues affecting their communion and the society in general.


In their separate speeches, the Chairman, Council of Knights, Province of Niger, Sir Uche Igweka and President, Council of Knights, Diocese of Awka, Dr Emma Emelumadu said that it is their resolve to make the Council great, assisting their Bishops in carrying out duties for the positive growth of their dioceses.


Correspondent Amaka Chibuzor Okoye reports that among those present at the convention were former Dean, Church of Nigeria, Most Reverend Maxwell Anikwenwa, former State Chief Judge, Justice Paul Obidigwe and hosts of others while the theme of the convention is ‘Earnestly Contend for the Faith’.
