NYG2021: Team Ogun Dictates Pace As Usman Kareem Delivers First Gold Medal

Team Ogun on Thursday won the first medal at the ongoing 6th National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara State as proceedings began with gymnastics at the multi sports fiesta, specially designed for youth development.

Inside a filled to the brim gymnasium at the University of Ilorin, team Ogun’s Gold medal was won in the Boys’ Artistic Floor gymnastics event at the expense of Delta State who took the Silver.

Usman Kareem delivered the top prize after putting up a splendid display which earned him 6.90 on the judges’ scorecard.

The Ogun State gymnast also won silver in the Pollen Horse event of gymnastics where he narrowly lost the gold to team Delta.

At the moment, team Ogun has one gold and one Silver medal at the end of day one and will hope to increase the number when events take centre stage on day two.

Meanwhile, the competition will continue today with several sports on the card, team Ogun will compete in the female gymnastics event , as well as Badminton and Chess.

All together, Ogun State is scheduled to take part in twenty two events including Athletics, Ayo, Badminton, Boxing, Chess, Cycling, Darts , Gymnastics, Judo , Karate and Deaf Athletics.

Others are Para Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis , Basketball, Golf, Squash, Wrestling and Kung fu among others.
