Erling Haaland isn’t just making headlines for his goals anymore—this time it’s for a change to his football shirt.
Ahead of Norway’s World Cup qualifiers, the Manchester City striker decided to alter his jersey name, adding his middle name so it now proudly reads “Braut Haaland.”
Why the Name Change Matters
This switch isn’t random.
Haaland’s full name has always been Erling Braut Haaland, and fans may remember it from his jaw-dropping nine-goal haul at the U20 World Cup back in 2019.
On Instagram too, he sticks to the full version.
In Norway, it’s actually common to carry both parents’ surnames—something that ties him back to his family roots.
A Sporting Family Legacy
Football fans often remember his father, Alfie Haaland, who played in the Premier League with Manchester City between 2000 and 2003.
But Erling’s mother, Gry Marita Braut, was just as much of an athlete.
She was a heptathlon champion in the 1990s, competing in everything from hurdles and high jump to javelin and the 800m.
Clearly, sporting excellence runs deep in the family.
Norway’s Boss Weighs In
When asked about the name change, Norway’s manager Stale Solbakken kept it simple: “That’s his name, it’s no longer that difficult.”
He admitted he hadn’t even known about it until recently.
Despite this change for his national side, Haaland has always played under just “Haaland” at clubs like Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester City.
Eyes on World Cup Qualification
The name on the back of his shirt won’t matter as much as what he delivers on the pitch.
Norway are flying high, sitting at the top of their group with 12 points from four games.
They face Finland in a friendly on September 4 before their crucial World Cup qualifier against Moldova on September 9.
If things continue this way, Norway could be on track for a place in the 2026 World Cup.
Haaland’s Love for Fast Cars
Away from football, Haaland’s passion for luxury cars keeps turning heads.
Just last month, he was spotted leaving Manchester City’s Etihad Campus in a powerful Ford Shelby F-150 truck—a beast with a 5.0-litre V8 engine that can hit 60mph in just 3.4 seconds.
A Garage Full of Supercars
That’s only one of many. Since joining City in 2022, Haaland has built up an enviable fleet.
In early 2025, after signing the most lucrative contract in Premier League history—worth nearly £1 million a week—he splashed out on multiple supercars.
In February, he was seen behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 worth over £200,000.
Soon after, reports emerged that he partnered with billionaire Ole Ertvaag to secure a Bugatti Tourbillion, a £4 million masterpiece with futuristic butterfly doors and a staggering 1,800 horsepower hybrid engine.
Luxury on Wheels
The spending didn’t stop there. In May, he bought a yellow Ferrari 812 Superfast, setting him back £320,000.
His collection already boasts an Aston Martin DBX SUV (£350,000), a Mercedes Maybach (£250,000), and an Audi RS6 Avant Quattro (£120,000).
Over the years, he’s also been spotted with a Ferrari Monza SP2, a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, and a Range Rover Sport.
The Bigger Picture
For Haaland, both his name and his lifestyle are a reflection of heritage and ambition.
On the pitch, he’s carrying his family name forward with pride, while off it, he’s indulging in a passion that matches his larger-than-life personality.
With Norway chasing a World Cup dream and his career at City thriving, Haaland seems to be driving—literally and figuratively—into an exciting chapter of his story.
