Nigeria To Complete Abandoned Projects In Niger Delta – Akpabio

The federal government has stated that it intends to complete all Niger Delta projects that have been abandoned.

Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, revealed this during an inspection visit of 1000-bed hostel blocks built by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) at the University of Uyo.

According to the Minister, the NDDC’s decision to complete work on the students’ hostel was based on a directive from President Muhammadu Buhari.

He added that “other abandoned, but life-touching projects in the Niger Delta region were now at various stages of completion and inauguration.”

Senator Akpabio revealed that the NDDC would continue to support educational development by creating conducive teaching and learning environment in schools in the region.

Located at the Main Campus of the institution at Nsukara Offot, Uyo, the three-storey project which started about fifteen (15) years ago, but was delayed for many reasons is almost 98 per cent completed and ready for commissioning in the next couple of weeks.

The hostel has 500-bed spaces for male undergraduates and 500-bed spaces for female undergraduates.

On his part, the Interim Administrator of the NDDC, Effiong Akwa appreciated the government role in ensuring that “all abandoned but viable projects in the region are completed and handed over to its direct beneficiaries.”
