Niehaus spoke to more than 50 people when he was arrested: Police Brigadier

When Carl Niehaus, the former spokesperson for the Umkhontho we Sizwe Military Veterans Association, was arrested in July last year, police Brigadier Francis Dantgan testified in the Estcourt Magistrates Court that he spoke to more than 50 persons outside the town’s prison.
People gathered outside the prison after former President Jacob Zuma was sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of court. Niehaus is accused of breaking COVID-19 lockdown standards, which at the time stipulated that no more than 50 persons could attend a gathering.
People who had congregated at the local courthouse earlier that day dispersed when the police requested them to, according to Dantgan.
