The General Hospital Somolu has held a low-key celebration to mark 15years of its existence in full compliance with all COVID-19 protocols by members of management and staff of the hospital.
Speaking at the event, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Aderade Ijogun, expressed appreciation to all members of staff for their commitment and diligence in maintaining high-quality service delivery and ensuring that the hospital is rated among the best in the State.
Acknowledging the immense contribution of the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, to the growth of the hospital, Dr. Ijogun said she was proud that Mrs. Sanwo-Olu was the Medical Director of the hospital before she became the First Lady of the State, saying “We are building on the impeccable legacy of the excellent and high-quality service delivery she left behind”.
The Medical Director expressed satisfaction with the hospital environment despite the demolition of the main building, stressing that the planned expansion of the facility would enable it to have more bed spaces for the admission of patients in the hospital.
She said, meanwhile, the facility has recently added two temporary buildings, comprising of the Postnatal Ward and Labour Ward, revealing that work has also been completed on the new extension for the Radiology and Dental departments of the hospital.
Ijogun noted that the hospital has witnessed increased patronage since the addition of the Postnatal Ward and Labour Wards, pointing out that the hospital is witnessing daily average attendance of 287 patients and monthly attendance of 8,900 patients.
Recall that the General Hospital, Somolu, which was formerly known as Oguntolu Clinic, is one of the 27 hospitals under the Management of Lagos State Health Service Commission and Lagos State Ministry of Health. It started as a Primary Health Care Centre before it was upgraded to a Secondary Health Facility in 2006 during the Administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
