Winning Miss America should have been nothing but joy for Cassie Donegan.
Representing New York, the 28-year-old beauty queen proudly accepted her crown and a $50,000 tuition scholarship.
But instead of basking in her victory, she quickly found herself at the center of a storm — and all because of her makeup.
Online Backlash Over Makeup Choices
The celebration took a sour turn when social media users mocked her concealer in a video posted by the official Miss America account.
Some called for her to “get a new makeup artist,” while others nitpicked that her concealer was too light and “washed her out.”
A few even claimed that the runner-up, Miss Texas Sadie Schiermeyer, deserved the crown instead.
Speaking Out on the Hate
Cassie decided not to stay silent. In an interview with FOX News, she explained that criticism is part of the spotlight.
“When something big like this happens, people will always have opinions.
Everyone has the right to share theirs online,” she said.
But while she respects freedom of expression, she admitted to PEOPLE that doesn’t mean she enjoys seeing cruel comments about her appearance.
Staying Grounded in Positivity
Instead of letting negativity ruin her achievement, Donegan is focusing on her bigger mission — inspiring young girls.
She wants them to see her as proof that believing in yourself makes anything possible.
“If I can light even the smallest spark in them, then I’ve done my part,” she shared.
For her, empowerment comes from within, and she hopes to encourage others to embrace self-confidence.
Competing Against the Best
Donegan’s win was no small feat.
She bested 51 contestants from across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
Her crown was passed down by last year’s Miss America, Abbie Stockard of Alabama.
Beyond the title, Cassie’s talent as a singer and actor shone through when she earned top honors in the 2026 Talent Competition.
Staying True to Herself
During the rapid-fire question round, Cassie made an impression with her thoughts on authenticity.
She emphasized the importance of expressing your true self in any environment — especially professional ones.
“No one should tell you what to do with your body,” she said.
“This is your vessel, and you should be able to walk proudly in it.”
Looking Ahead
With her crown, Cassie not only gains national recognition but also a platform to champion her values.
She believes Miss America has long been a launchpad for women with ambition, and she intends to use her reign to encourage others to chase their dreams without apology.
