A New York teenager says she is still reeling after an alleged violent attack outside her school, leaving her with 17 stitches and deep emotional scars.
Madison Evans, 14, says the incident has shaken her so profoundly that she may never use the brand involved again.
“I can’t even look at those cups anymore. Every time I see one, it just brings it all back,” she told the New York Post.
Incident Unfolds Outside Brentwood High School
The alleged attack took place around 11 a.m. Tuesday as Madison was leaving Brentwood High School on Long Island.
She was approached by two girls she had never met before, who reportedly had a problem with her cousin.
According to Madison, the girls began bullying her because of her family connection.
Video footage from outside the school reportedly shows a heated argument between the teens before the situation escalated.
Mother Steps Into the Altercation
As a security guard held one of the girls back, Toni Monroe, 35, the mother of one of the teens, allegedly intervened.
Monroe was captured on footage demanding, “Give me your Stanley,” taking the large metal cup from her daughter’s hands and allegedly striking Madison over the head with it multiple times.
Witnesses told the Post that Monroe tried to flee after the attack but was stopped by a security guard.
Arrest and Legal Action
Police arrested Monroe in the school parking lot and charged her with assault.
She was released without bail but must wear an ankle monitor and is barred from contacting Madison. The incident left Madison visibly traumatized.
“Blood was streaming down my face. I thought I was going to die,” she said, recalling the terrifying experience.
Initially, she thought the attacker was another student and was shocked to realize it was an adult.
“I thought it was another student, but then when I looked at her, she had a tattoo,” Madison explained.
Family Reacts to the Alleged Attack
Madison’s guardian, Shameakca Forney, said the video was hard to believe and condemned Monroe’s actions.
“If you’re going to let the kids fight, then let the kids fight — kids will be kids, we’ve all done it growing up — but you don’t jump in and fight kids,” Forney said.
Madison’s cousin, Tyleen Smith, echoed the sentiment, adding, “As a mom you’re supposed to diffuse the situation and take your daughter away to see what’s going on instead of attacking a kid with a cup.”
School Officials Condemn the Incident
Monroe reportedly told the court she was at the school to complain about her daughter being bullied.
However, school officials emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable.
Brentwood schools Superintendent Wanda Ortiz-Rivera issued a statement after the footage circulated online: “The safety and well-being of our students is always our highest priority.
This type of behavior will not be tolerated in our schools.”
Teen Left Physically and Emotionally Shaken
The alleged assault has left Madison shaken both physically and emotionally, with lingering trauma from the incident.
She says even seeing a Stanley cup now triggers distress, highlighting the lasting impact of what should have been a brief and manageable conflict at a schoolyard.
