New York Jets reportedly tell Aaron Rodgers to stop Pat McAfee appearances and commit to offseason training if he wants to stay with the team

Rumors are flying about whether the New York Jets have given Aaron Rodgers a major condition for his return next season—ending his weekly appearances on The Pat McAfee Show.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the team reportedly told Rodgers that if he wanted to stay, he would have to be fully committed to the offseason program and cut ties with McAfee’s ESPN show.

However, a team source has since told DailyMail.com that the report is false.

Neither Rodgers’ agent nor a representative for McAfee’s production company has commented on the matter.

Rodgers’ Commitment to Offseason Training Under Scrutiny

Beyond the McAfee controversy, the Jets reportedly want Rodgers to commit to participating in all offseason training activities.

Last year, he raised eyebrows when he skipped mandatory minicamp to take a trip to Egypt.

Russini, speaking on her Scoop City podcast, claimed, “They had conversations with Aaron Rodgers about the future and told him, ‘If you’re going to be part of this team, you need to attend all of training camp, and you’re not going to do Pat McAfee interviews anymore.’”

The conversation was framed as a way for new head coach Aaron Glenn to establish control and set expectations for the team moving forward.

Jets Moving On from Rodgers?

While Rodgers’ status remains up in the air, multiple reports suggest the Jets are prepared to move on from him.

Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported that the team has all but decided to part ways with the veteran quarterback.

Additionally, Fox’s Jay Glazer noted that Rodgers recently flew back to New Jersey to meet with the Jets, only to be told they were planning to move forward without him.

If the Jets do decide to cut ties with Rodgers, they’ll be facing a significant financial setback.

Releasing him would leave them with $49 million in dead cap space, making it difficult for new general manager Darren Mougey to build the roster in free agency.

Davante Adams Could Be on His Way Out Too

Rodgers’ potential departure isn’t the only major shake-up for the Jets.

Star wide receiver Davante Adams, who reunited with Rodgers in 2024 after a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, is also rumored to be leaving.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Adams prefers to play on the West Coast.

While he’s under contract for $38 million next season, the Jets could release him and lower his cap hit to just $8 million.

Adams had a solid season in New York, catching 67 passes for 854 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games.

However, his chemistry with Rodgers didn’t quite match their dominance in Green Bay.

Rodgers’ Uncertain Future and Potential Landing Spots

Rodgers has previously hinted at either retiring or playing elsewhere.

While new head coach Aaron Glenn has emphasized that “every player is under the microscope,” he hasn’t committed to Rodgers as the Jets’ starter.

Meanwhile, Jets owner Woody Johnson has distanced himself from the decision, stating that it will ultimately be up to Glenn and Mougey.

However, when asked if he would support keeping Rodgers, Johnson responded, “Absolutely. If they want Aaron back, he’s a Hall of Famer for sure.”

Rodgers has a no-trade clause, meaning the Jets would need his approval to move him.

If he does leave, potential suitors include the San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings, and Las Vegas Raiders.

A Rocky Tenure with the Jets

Rodgers’ time in New York hasn’t gone as planned.

After arriving in a blockbuster trade before the 2023 season, he suffered a devastating Achilles injury just four plays into his Jets debut.

Since then, the team has struggled, going 6-12 in games he has started, with Rodgers throwing 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Despite the uncertainty, Rodgers isn’t in a rush to decide his future.

Following the Jets’ season finale win over the Dolphins—where he threw his 500th career touchdown—he told Fox Sports, “I’m gonna get home and relax… but I’m not going to hold anyone up.

I’ll have conversations with the Jets and we’ll make a decision before it gets too late in the offseason.”

With speculation running wild, all eyes are on Rodgers and the Jets as they navigate a crucial offseason decision.
