Late Friday morning brought alarming news from New York City’s East River, where a teenage girl reportedly went missing in the water.
City officials quickly mobilized rescue teams, sparking an ongoing search effort that has gripped the area near Roosevelt Island.
Rescue Teams Dive Into Action
The first call about a possible drowning came in just after noon, around 12:15 p.m.
Both the Fire Department (FDNY) and Police Department (NYPD) dispatched divers and harbor units to the scene.
FDNY divers initially scoured the waters but didn’t locate anyone, so the search was passed over to the NYPD’s specialized harbor units to continue the efforts.
Identity Still Unknown
Officials revealed that they have not yet identified the missing girl, which means no family members have been contacted at this stage.
The uncertainty adds to the urgency and difficulty of the ongoing rescue operation.
Search Continues Without Breakthrough
As of 3 p.m., despite the tireless work of rescue crews, the teen has not been found.
No personal belongings, such as clothes or other items, have been discovered to offer clues.
Both the FDNY and NYPD are coordinating closely, maintaining a steady, active search.
More Time Left Before Nightfall
Thankfully, the setting sun in New York City won’t arrive until 8:20 p.m.
This gives the rescue teams several more hours of daylight to comb through the river.
The city holds its breath, hoping for a breakthrough before the day ends.
