Efforts to cool the fighting between Russia and Ukraine are quietly progressing behind the scenes.
Negotiators from both sides are currently hammering out the details for a temporary ceasefire, but no official ceasefire has been announced yet.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov gave an update saying that Russia is preparing its own peace proposal and expects to share it soon, while Ukraine has already sent its list of terms to Washington.
Still Some Way to Go Before Ceasefire Is Set
Peskov emphasized that the talks are still in the early stages.
“We haven’t reached a ceasefire or truce yet,” he explained.
The focus right now is on agreeing on the exact text of a memorandum and a list of conditions that would guide a temporary halt to hostilities.
Meanwhile, the conflict continues on the ground with ongoing military actions.
Fighting Continues Amid Negotiations
Despite the talks, both sides remain actively engaged in strikes.
Peskov highlighted that Ukraine has been targeting Russian residential areas, while Russia claims it is focusing its attacks on ammunition depots and locations tied to military equipment.
The exchange of fire continues as the negotiators try to find common ground.
Moscow Accuses Kyiv of Sabotaging Talks with Drone Attacks
Tensions are high not only on the battlefield but also in the diplomatic arena.
Moscow has accused Kyiv of deliberately escalating tensions by increasing drone strikes into Russian territory, suggesting these attacks are meant to disrupt the negotiation process.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has openly stated that drone strikes are a crucial part of Ukraine’s defense strategy.
Kremlin officials have warned that anyone responsible for drone attacks inside Russia will face consequences.
Awaiting Russia’s Peace Proposal After Kyiv’s Submission
According to Peskov, Russia’s peace memorandum is nearly finished and will be made public soon.
On the other side, Ukraine has already handed over its conditions to the United States, which is now waiting for Russia’s version to move forward. U.S. presidential envoy Keith Kellogg confirmed that Washington is closely monitoring the exchange and is ready to engage once both proposals are on the table.
