It’s been a tough season for Kaizer Chiefs fans, and Saturday’s 2-1 loss to arch-rivals Orlando Pirates didn’t make things any easier.
The Soweto Derby, held at FNB Stadium, was meant to be a chance for redemption—but instead, it turned into the club’s 12th league defeat of the season.
As expected, emotions ran high after the final whistle.
But things really heated up in the post-match press conference when head coach Nasreddine Nabi faced questions about his future.
Nabi Clashes With Reporter After Tough Question
When a journalist asked Nabi whether he believed he was still the right man to lead Amakhosi, the Tunisian coach didn’t hold back.
Clearly frustrated, Nabi fired back, saying, “I don’t think you’re the one who gets to decide if I stay or not.”
He emphasized that his presence at Kaizer Chiefs is part of a longer-term process and that expecting immediate success is unrealistic.
“Don’t Provoke Me,” Warns an Agitated Nabi
The coach made it clear he wasn’t happy with the line of questioning.
“I’m here for the process.
You can’t ask me why I’m still here just because the results aren’t good right now.
Don’t provoke me—I’m not a rookie.
I’ve been in this game a long time,” he said.
He challenged the media to ask more game-focused questions, particularly around tactics, rather than what he viewed as emotionally charged or unfair criticisms.
“I’m not panicking just because we lost,” he added firmly.
One More Chance to Turn Things Around
With the season nearing its end, Nabi doesn’t have much room left to prove himself.
Kaizer Chiefs now look to the Nedbank Cup final, where they’ll once again face Orlando Pirates.
The stakes couldn’t be higher—not just for the trophy, but possibly for Nabi’s future at the club.
Can Chiefs Break the Drought?
It’s no secret that Kaizer Chiefs have been chasing silverware for a while.
A win in the Nedbank Cup would go a long way in easing fan frustration and possibly quieting the voices calling for a change in leadership.
What’s Next for Nabi and Amakhosi?
Whether he stays or goes, Nasreddine Nabi has one last shot to show he can deliver.
The derby defeat may have raised questions, but the cup final could still write a very different ending to this season’s story.
