After a tough defeat against Polokwane City, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi voiced his frustration, believing his team did not deserve to lose.
The final score of 2-0 was a tough pill to swallow for the Amakhosi, who saw Polokwane’s Oswin Appollis score in the 17th minute and Mokibelo Ramabu seal the win with a late goal in the 90th minute.
Nabi Calls Out Referee Decisions
Speaking to the media after the game, Nabi didn’t hold back when discussing the role of the officials.
He expressed that certain decisions during the match had a major impact on the outcome.
“I don’t want to be given a gift; I respect my opponents and the referees, but I don’t want to lose because of mistakes,” Nabi said.
He pointed to a specific incident where two potential penalties were denied, and highlighted what he considered a dangerous foul on one of his players that warranted a red card.
Nabi also recalled a previous injury to Edson Castillo, which had sidelined him for six months, as a moment where he had spoken out against refereeing decisions.
He made it clear that his criticisms weren’t out of disrespect but because of his deep belief in the protection of players.
“I don’t want to protect myself because of a loss, but protecting players is the referees’ responsibility,” he emphasized.
Rallying Behind His Players
Despite the setback, Nabi was quick to offer support to his players. “I don’t want to kill the morale of my players today,” he shared.
He urged his team to remain focused and keep their spirits high, even in the face of such a challenging loss.
Nabi remained confident about the future, stating that the club is heading in the right direction.
“I have confidence in my players, my staff, and in myself. Don’t worry, Kaizer Chiefs will come back stronger,” he concluded, showing his unwavering belief in the team’s potential.
