MSNBC Sparks Outrage After Host Compares Donald Trump’s Rally at Madison Square Garden to Infamous 1939 Nazi Gathering

Amid a politically charged atmosphere, MSNBC has faced backlash for drawing parallels between Donald Trump’s recent rally at Madison Square Garden and a notorious Nazi gathering that occurred there in 1939.

Host Jonathan Capehart didn’t hold back, recalling that “in 1939, more than 20,000 supporters of a different fascist leader, Adolf Hitler, packed the Garden for a so-called pro-America rally.”

During the segment, images from the historical Nazi rally were shown, while Capehart accused Trump of transforming the iconic arena into a platform for extremism.

His comments raised eyebrows and ignited heated discussions across social media.

Outrage on Social Media

Reactions to MSNBC’s comparison have been swift and fierce.

Many social media users expressed their anger, pointing out that Madison Square Garden has a long history of hosting a variety of political events, including the 1992 Democratic National Convention.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “MSNBC just called 20,000 Trump supporters Nazis. Let that sink in,” reflecting disbelief at the network’s bold claim.

Others chimed in, highlighting the perceived hypocrisy in the comparison.

One commentator mentioned, “They must have forgotten that the DNC held their convention there for Bill Clinton,” while another stated, “MSNBC is a shameful extension of the Democrat Party of hate and division.”

A Broader Controversy

The controversy didn’t end with MSNBC. Democratic VP candidate Tim Walz echoed similar sentiments, suggesting a “direct parallel” to the infamous rally in the mid-1930s at the same venue.

He asserted, “And don’t think that he doesn’t know for one second exactly what they’re doing there,” implying a calculated move on Trump’s part.

Even Mary Trump, the former president’s niece, weighed in, stating, “So, we’re really doing this again. Eyes wide open,” further intensifying the discourse around the rally.

Capehart’s Previous Controversies

Capehart is no stranger to controversy on-air.

He gained attention in January when he became emotional discussing the January 6 Capitol riot, all while promoting a book by former D.C. police officer Michael Fanone.

His earlier comments had already stirred debates, as he previously claimed that Trump supporters posed a greater threat than foreign groups like the Taliban or ISIS, labeling them “MAGA and the domestic threat.”

Madison Square Garden: A Political Hub

Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden isn’t an isolated incident; the venue has a rich history of hosting political events dating back to the 1800s.

It has welcomed both Democratic and Republican National Conventions and played host to back-to-back pro-Nazi and Communist rallies in the lead-up to World War II.

The arena has witnessed many memorable moments, including Marilyn Monroe singing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy in 1962, cementing its status as “the world’s most famous arena.”
