Mother of Son Stabbed to Death by Thugs Expresses Grief
Gulinder Kaur, a mother who had fled to Britain with her son after the Taliban killed her husband, expressed her grief after her son was stabbed to death by two thugs in a case of mistaken identity.
The two perpetrators, Vanushan Balakrishnan and Ilyas Suleiman, both 17 at the time, fatally stabbed 16-year-old Rishmeet Singh in November 2021, wrongly believing he belonged to a rival gang.
Rishmeet, an aspiring police officer who had fled Afghanistan with his mother and grandmother, was pronounced dead at the scene after receiving 15 stab wounds, including five to his back.

Rishmeet’s mother, speaking outside the court after the culprits were sentenced to life imprisonment, stated that her son was an innocent victim, and she did not understand why he was killed in such a way.
She explained that Rishmeet was her only child and had his whole life ahead of him, attending college and completing a public service course with the ambition of becoming a police officer.
He was loved by all who knew him and was described as a good person who would not hurt a fly.
His untimely death has taken away everything from her, and she will never recover from this evil act.
Perpetrators Jailed for Life
The perpetrators, Balakrishnan and Suleiman, were found guilty of murder in March 2022 after a trial at the Old Bailey.
Today, they were sentenced to life imprisonment with minimum terms of 24 years and 21 years, respectively.
The judge, Sarah Munro KC, stated that Rishmeet was an entirely innocent victim, and it defies belief that the two perpetrators sought him out to kill him.
She described the case as yet another tragic example of the needless loss of a young teenager following a violent stabbing on the streets of London.
Details of the Attack and Lyrics Sent Between Killers
Rishmeet was walking home with his friends from a park when two unknown males began running towards him, and he immediately started sprinting towards his friends, who were shouting for him to run.
However, he tripped and fell to the ground, and one of the perpetrators stabbed him five times in the back, while the other attacker stabbed him at least ten times.
The culprits were subsequently captured on CCTV fleeing and were identified by their clothing.
Balakrishnan’s phone and notebook contained heinous lyrics and text messages glorifying the murder, and a picture of his blood-stained knife was found on his mobile phone.
Balakrishnan had a previous conviction for possessing a Rambo knife, for which he was given a referral order in February 2021.
