If you’ve been waking up to misty views and chilly mornings in KwaZulu-Natal lately, you’re not alone.
The province is in for a stretch of calm, cool weather this week—with fog in the early hours and some light rain later in the day, especially if you’re out west.
Misty Mornings on the Cards
Forecaster Odirile Modipa says the mornings will begin with widespread fog, especially over places like Pietermaritzburg and parts of the Midlands.
“We’re starting tomorrow with some morning fog patches over parts of KwaZulu-Natal,” Modipa explained.
While the fog won’t stick around all day, it may linger long enough to slow down your morning commute or school run.
Drizzle to Follow as the Day Progresses
Once the fog clears, you might want to keep your umbrella handy.
Light, isolated showers are expected to roll in by late morning and could continue into the afternoon.
These won’t be heavy downpours, but they’ll definitely bring some dampness to the day.
Temperatures Stay on the Cooler Side
The weather won’t just be wet—it’s staying cool too.
Most areas across the province will see daytime highs struggling to reach above 20°C.
Durban will dip to a chilly 13°C at night, and Pietermaritzburg is expected to fall even further to around 9°C.
Daytime temperatures will hover around 22°C inland and just 17°C along the coastal regions.
Modipa added, “KwaZulu-Natal can also expect quite a cool day, with Pietermaritzburg only peaking at a maximum of 22°C and coastal areas around 17°C.”
Western Regions Bear the Brunt of Showers
The western parts of the province are in for the most rainfall, thanks to a weather system making its way eastward across the central interior.
While it’s not expected to be severe, residents—especially farmers—should watch out for slippery roads, reduced visibility, and damp outdoor conditions.
