Morgan Gibbs-White made a statement on Monday night when he was taunted by Wolves fans, who targeted his influencer girlfriend, Britney De Villiers.
Despite the sick chants, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder wasted no time in responding.
He had returned to Molineux with Nottingham Forest, following his £42.5 million move to the City Ground in August 2022.
Wolves supporters were never pleased with Gibbs-White’s departure, and they’ve made their displeasure known every time he’s back at the stadium.
However, this time, the atmosphere grew even more intense as a section of the home crowd started chanting offensive remarks about De Villiers whenever Gibbs-White touched the ball early in the match.
Turning the Tables
Rather than letting the abuse get to him, Gibbs-White had the perfect response.
Just minutes after the taunts began, he put Forest ahead in the seventh minute with a quick counter-attack.
To celebrate, he ran to the corner flag and put his fingers in his ears—an unmistakable gesture signaling that he was ignoring the noise from the Wolves fans.
This wasn’t just a professional victory for Gibbs-White; it was a personal triumph.
He had faced the hostile reception with resilience, and his response was a display of confidence.
Life Beyond Football
Off the pitch, Gibbs-White has been enjoying life with De Villiers, who has built a following of 274,000 on Instagram.
The couple recently took a skiing trip over the New Year with fellow footballer Anthony Elanga and his partner China Navana.
De Villiers shared moments from the getaway on her social media, where they celebrated the New Year together.
The couple also welcomed their son, Graysen, in November 2023, adding to the joyful moments in their lives.
Post-Match Reflection
After Forest sealed a 3-0 victory, with goals from Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi, Gibbs-White reflected on the taunts and his celebration.
He was asked if the fans’ chants motivated him more than usual.
“I think it always has the same meaning,” Gibbs-White shared with Optus Sport, explaining his reaction.
“Just block out whatever they say. But I don’t mind it. It gives me that edge and motivation to do better.”
Gibbs-White added, “I love it. This is part of football. The fans giving stick and us performing on the pitch. I’m just happy the boys got the three points tonight.”
A Night to Remember
For his performance at Molineux, Gibbs-White was named player of the match.
His teammate Ola Aina captured the moment on social media, showing Gibbs-White’s joy in piling on the misery for Wolves.
Aina playfully shouted, “Hey, you lot! The happiest guy in Wolverhampton, Morgan Gibbs-White!”
Gibbs-White responded by proudly showing off his award.
With four goals and three assists in the Premier League this season, Gibbs-White is making an impact.
What’s Next for Forest?
Looking ahead, Forest will return to action on Saturday for an FA Cup third-round clash with Luton Town.
Just three days later, they’ll face league leaders Liverpool at the City Ground, eager to show they are real contenders for a top-four finish after an impressive start to the season.
